March 5th Message by Congregant Liz Gellis

As Cantor Marci begins the second half of her rabbinic program, she is working on bringing our membership closer together. One of her focuses is to grow the JCV volunteer opportunities. She has worked with dedicated members of the Caring Committee to expand our outreach to members who need support. It is a core value at the JCV and something she really wants to strengthen.

As our spiritual leader, the cantor brings us together on Friday nights in welcoming Shabbat. If you have attended any of the Shabbat Services you will have experienced her soulful chanting of prayers and songs and her inspirational sermons. We are so fortunate that our rabbi-in-training has a beautiful singing voice.

During our Onegs, Cantor Marci continues her warm welcomes, speaking with everyone–including members and visitors. She sees this as valuable time connecting with members and hearing what is on their mind. Our members even receive a birthday call from the cantor, which gives us all the chance to speak to the cantor one on one.

Cantor Marci is also very active on many JCV committees, bringing her clergical point of view and many years of experience at the JCV. She is very enthusiastic about the upcoming Strategic Planning Session for the JCV Board. She sees it as a chance to look at the JCV with fresh eyes. Who are we? Where do we want to go and grow? How long will that take and what kind of help do we need in getting there? Above all, she sees the JCV as a community working together.
