Summary of First Strategic Planning Committee Retreat

On March 5, the Jewish Congregation of Venice’s Strategic Planning Committee met in the first of two retreats, with the second meeting held on March 18. Our first session was led by our consultant, Whitney Crettol, who is affiliated with the Gulf Coast Community Foundation’s “Invest in Incredible” program. The JCV received a matching grant from the Gulf Coast Community Foundation to employ our consultant to help us develop a plan and prioritize for our future. The JCV Strategic Planning Committee is composed of JCV board members with three additional participants from essential areas not represented by designated board functions.

During the first retreat, we used data from our congregational survey, the Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee’s community study, an  internal and external data scan of our membership’s demographics, growth projections gleaned from available public data, and an internal board self-assessment. We analyzed the data and identified strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT style analysis).

We met again on March 18 and will soon post the results of the second retreat. At that retreat, the Strategic Planning Committee used the outcomes gleaned from the first session to identify three priority areas with the goal of developing a plan that will help us move forward  during the next 3-5 years. As we work through this process, we will be updating the Strategic Planning page on our website with more information.
